A medical or healthcare website has to do a few things reliably: tell patients where you are and when you are open, explain the services you offer, make it easy to book or get in touch, and reassure people who may be anxious. Design fashion matters far less than clarity, and the theme you choose should make those basics easy rather than bury them under animation.
This list is limited to themes that are actively maintained for current WordPress and PHP, work with the block editor, and give a practice, clinic, dentist, physiotherapist or care provider the pages it needs. Our own medical theme comes first, with a plain note that it is ours; the well-known free alternatives follow without affiliation.

What a healthcare site needs from its theme
- Contact details above the fold. Phone number, address and hours in the header or a top bar, on every page.
- Services and team sections. Card layouts for departments or treatments, and a clean way to present practitioners with their qualifications.
- Accessibility. Sensible contrast, readable type sizes and keyboard-friendly navigation. Patients skew older and many use assistive technology.
- Room for a booking tool. Appointment booking belongs in a plugin or your practice-management system; the theme just needs to style a form or embed cleanly.
- Fast on mobile. Most patients look you up on a phone, often while unwell or in a hurry.
Our themes (Canyon Themes)
Full disclosure: the first four themes are ours. The free versions are reviewed by the wordpress.org theme team and maintained for current WordPress and PHP. We list them first because this is our site; compare them with the alternatives that follow.
1. Better Health
Better Health is our theme for medical practices, clinics and health organisations. The homepage is organised around a hero area, a services section for treatments or departments, a team section, testimonials and a call to action, with Customizer controls for colours, typography, header and footer layout. A top bar holds the phone number and opening hours. It ships without sliders or builder dependencies, so it stays quick. Classic theme; content is edited in the block editor.
2. Better Health Pro
Better Health Pro adds more homepage sections, additional header and footer layouts, wider typography and colour control and priority support. It suits multi-location practices and clinics that need several service landing pages, or anyone who wants a more distinctive look without custom development.
3. Business Way
Business Way is a general corporate theme that works well for allied-health businesses that present more like a company than a clinic: occupational health providers, medical equipment suppliers, care agencies. Clean services grid, about section and a readable blog. A pro version adds layouts and support.
4. Sparker
Sparker is our lightweight multipurpose theme. For a solo practitioner, a therapist or a health blog where the writing matters more than a large homepage, it keeps things simple and fast while still offering a featured area and a services section. Sparker Pro adds header and footer layouts and typography controls.

None of these is medical-specific, but each is widely used, well maintained, and flexible enough to build a professional practice site with core blocks and a booking or form plugin.
5. Astra
Astra’s free version includes importable starter sites, among them designs for dentists, clinics and wellness practices. Customizer controls cover header layouts, a top bar for contact details, typography and colours. The pro add-on expands layout options.
6. Kadence
Kadence includes a drag-and-drop header and footer builder in the free version, which makes it straightforward to keep a phone number and a “book now” button visible on every page. Global colours and fonts flow through to the block editor.
7. GeneratePress
GeneratePress is minimal and very light, with a strong record on accessibility and clean markup. A good base if you have a designer or are happy to build pages with core blocks. The premium add-on unlocks the site library and layout modules.

8. Neve
Neve takes a mobile-first approach and keeps the front end light. The free version has header and footer builders and a set of starter sites, including health and wellness designs. Worth a look if most of your visitors arrive from phones.
9. Blocksy
Blocksy has a polished Customizer with live-preview header and footer builders and detailed control over page layouts. It gives you more design options out of the box than GeneratePress while staying fast.
10. OceanWP
OceanWP is a multipurpose theme with mature WooCommerce styling, useful if the practice sells products, supplements or online consultations. Its free Customizer options cover most layout decisions a small clinic will need.
Booking, privacy and patient data
Older lists in this category recommended themes with built-in doctor timetables and appointment systems. We would now advise against that. Keep booking in a dedicated plugin or your practice-management software, embedded in a page, so it survives a redesign and is maintained by people who specialise in it. Be careful with any form that collects health information: check what your local data-protection rules require, keep forms to the minimum fields, and use a privacy policy page (every theme above supports one). Themes themselves do not store patient data, but the plugins you add might.
